Pregnant cows stolen from a Guyra property

THE NEW England Rural Crime Unit is investigating the theft of 14 pregnant hereford heifers believed to be stolen from a property east of Guyra about July.

The 14 preg-tested and in-calf (PTIC) 20-month-old heifers could be worth upwards of $700 each.

The missing stock were part of a mob of 84 hereford heifers placed in a paddock at the property, Hill Park, at Aberfoyle in May.

The stock were mustered at the end of July after they were observed being spread out through a number of paddocks.

The count revealed the mob was 14 short.

Police said the stock were all station-bred and all had the station’s own brand.

They were also ear- marked with the offside ear having a National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) tag inserted.

One local breeder said the theft of that many heifers in one go would have required a 20-foot truck to load them all onto.

Police say they’re keen to speak with anyone who may be able to assist with any information in relation to the missing stock, including any person who might have been offered similar stock for sale through a private contract.
