THE family of three people shot dead in Wedderburn last year are still trying to understand why it happened, as the matter was again adjourned in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
Greg Holmes, his mother Mary Lockhart and his stepfather Peter Lockhart were killed in the shootings at rural properties south of Wedderburn on October 22 last year.
Ian Francis Jamieson, 63, appeared in court via video link on Wednesday charged with triple murder.
The hearing was adjourned for a third time to a contested committal on July 14, when the doctor who examined Jamieson on the night of the alleged murders, a pathologist who inspected the bodies and the informant will provide evidence.
Thirteen members of the Holmes families listened to proceedings.
In a pre-prepared statement, Mr Holmes said the family is still coming to terms with the sudden and horrific events.
"Our family is still trying to understand what happened on the night of October 22 last year when we lost our mother, stepfather of 31 years and brother - Mum, Peter and Greg," he said.
"Our three family members lost their lives and we are devastated and still trying to come to terms with our loss.
"We would like to thank the many people who have supported us through these tragic events and we look forward to the completion of these criminal proceedings so we can move on with our lives with our children and grandchildren, as Mum, Peter and Greg would want us to do."
The family requested privacy for the coming months and years as the criminal proceedings carry on.
"These tragic events have caused a great deal of emotional trauma within our close and extended family, which will take many years to heal," Mr Holmes said.
"We would ask for understanding and privacy during this difficult and highly emotional time, as we seek to respond with the dignity that Mum, Peter and Greg would expect of us."
