Two weekends ago, teams from Western, Southern and Northern played three games over three days in Tamworth.
The Western team, made up of players from Tamworth, Quirindi and Gunnedah, won both games against Northern (Armidale and Mid North Coast players) and Southern (Central Coast, Sydney, Lithgow and Southern Highlands players).
“It was a mini carnival,”
Tamworth Veterans secretary David Head said.
“The three regions will play each other again in a similar weekend on May 1/2/3 at Mandelong.
“Ron Farrell and Noel Cook are organising the Western team to play both days but we could be a little short as Noel celebrates his 70th on the Saturday and that will rule him and about four out.
“Hopefully we’ll have a team decided early next week.”
Head said the games may be the forerunner to establishing a regular Over 70s competition.
He said age restrictions might be lenient though.
“It might be the same as the Over 60s when they started where some 55-plus players were allowed.
“We’re thinking 67-plus players might be in the same boat to play in the 70s.”
Tamworth Junior Cricket Association has named its junior rep teams for next season.
All they need now are coaches and managers to go with them.
Anyone interested in coaching or managing the various Under 12,13,14,15 and 16 teams in the Northern Inland and Hunter Valley junior competitions should contact Simon Hood.
