Growing concern is being expressed in the community about the declining water situation in Tamworth, surrounding towns, and the Peel Valley.
Private bores and wells are dropping, and the Peel Valley irrigation industry is struggling.
Chaffey Dam is now at 33 per cent, and when the water capacity drops to 30 per cent, Tamworth residents will be faced with Level 4 restrictions, when no outside watering will be allowed.
The rain in the last few days has done nothing for the dam levels.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a 70 per cent chance of an El Nino weather event developing during the coming winter and spring, when there will be an increased likelihood of less rain than normal.
On May 6, at 6.30pm, the Tamworth Regional Council will present an outline to the public of the current Drought Management Strategy at the Tamworth Town Hall.
Meetings are also to be held at Nundle on May 20, Manilla on May 27 and Moonbi on June 3.
The Tamworth Regional Residents and Ratepayers Association feel it is very important that as many people as possible attend to acquaint themselves of the very serious situation we all face and to offer constructive suggestions as to the best way forward.
