Parish priest, Father Wayne Bendotti, said the idea to cover the church’s cross with poppies came from a parishioner.
The big steel cross has been covered with poppies as a mark of respect.
“More than 700 poppies were hand-made by parishioners and attached to a shade-cloth frame which had been made to fit the cross,” Fr Bendotti said.
“The frame was then lifted and secured to the cross. The project was finished off with a sea of standing poppies flowing from the foot of the cross.”
The cross stands at the intersection of Pinjarra Road and George Street.
It is lit up at night, and Fr Bendetti said he hoped it would inspire other community groups to be creative in honouring the Anzacs.
