The Oxley Highway bridge is due to be completed later this year.
Local MP Kevin Anderson said construction of the new concrete deck and earthworks for the new bridge approach on the Tamworth side were under way, but has signalled traffic disruptions as the work progresses.
The first of these is expected next Wednesday, when the highway is expected to be reduced to a single lane from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and, where required, from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, depending on the weather.
“In coming months, traffic will be switched onto part of the new road,” Mr Anderson said.
Up-to-date information, including any changes to traffic conditions, will be displayed on electronic message signs along the road.
Mr Anderson said work on the bridge, which will replace the existing Oxley Highway bridge over Tangaratta Creek, started in October last year and was on target to be completed in August.
“Since October, Roads and Maritime Services has made good progress on the new bridge. Piling has been completed and girders have been lifted into place and secured,” he said.
