New book Liam’s Story: So why do I wear Dad’s medals? aims to assist parents in helping their children understand death.
For Armidale-based co-author Madeline Fussell, it’s not a new concept.
Her eldest son, Michael, died while serving in Afghanistan in 2008, and her father fought in World War II.
Fussell said the inspiration to write came after a mother she met through her son’s death approached her.
The mother asked her for advice on how to explain to her son why he should wear his father’s medals after he died in a recent war conflict.
“It’s about finding a way to present a societally better story than just ‘my daddy died’,” Fussell said.
All profits from the book go to Soldier On, which supports wounded returned soldiers.
