Demolition works will commence this week too on the building that once housed the Treloar supermarket and hardware sections.
In the 2900-square-metre building’s place, which dates back to the 1950s, will be two new retail premises and an 80-space car park.
A development application lodged by Treloar Estates and approved by Tamworth Regional Council estimates the cost of the works to be $1.25 million.
Treloar Estates spokesman John Treloar said the yet-to-be-revealed national chain store had signed a seven-year lease, with options, on a 950sqm premises.
He said the Sam’s Warehouse building had been vacant for just over two years and the signing was “very positive progress for this end of town”.
“I think this is really fantastic news for Tamworth,” he said.
“We are really looking forward to this and I think Tamworth will be excited about it, too.”
A tenant to occupy the second 1200sqm premises, to be built next to the Kensell’s car dealership, will also be sought.
The development will not impact on the Spurling Bridal and Formal Wear and Struddys Sports stores fronting Brisbane St.
The Ray White building on the corner of Kable Ave and Brisbane St is not part of the Treloar Estates’ holding and will not be affected.
