The Tamworth pacer loves nothing better than sharing his oats and feed with some prize-winning Old English Game chooks.
While the prize-winning Sydney Royal Easter Show chooks have had their success at the Sydney Royal, Who Killed Kenny also broke through for his first race win at Tamworth Showground Paceway on Thursday, running away with the School Holiday Family Fun Day Pace (1980m).
The four-year-old gelding led and, when left alone out in front, speared to a 12.25m win from Enrichment (Brendan James).
Dayl March bred the gelding up north at Warwick but he sent him down to Danny Mackney to train at Tamworth where he’s been “knocking on the door”.
“He’s been learning how to race,” Mackney said.
“He’s just a big baby really but getting better and better each run, getting smarter.”
Who Killed Kenny loves the chooks, his Old English Game feathered friends to be specific.
They sit on his back, in his feed bin even when he’s eating up, Mackney said.
While he was notching his first win at his 14th start, he was just catching up on a few of his feathered mates.
They’d been down to the Sydney Royal Easter Show and won ribbons and cash for Mackney.
“We did have a pretty good show,” he smiled.
“We won a few ribbons and a bit of cash. Not as much as today though.”
Mackney said breeding chooks is a fun hobby and lets him meet a whole range of new people.
Who Killed Kenny, he hopes, might just continue his improvement and win a few more races as well.
