The Australian Quarter Horse Association’s 37th Q15 National Championship begins next Friday (April 10) and has something for everyone, reported the AQHA’s Nicky Moss-Smith.
“Events featured on the Q15 Program range from Halter, Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Team Roping, Barrel racing and Reining, just to name a few,” Moss-Smith said.
“Over 500 competitors from all over Australia come to this annual show to exhibit some of the finest horses in the country, showing in their respective disciplines.
“The Australian quarter horse is known as the world’s most versatile horse and the Q15 National Championship Show will certainly show spectators why.
“Admission is free of charge, so why not bring the family out and enjoy all the action and shopping.”
Traders will be on site selling a variety of goods from hats, boots, clothing, jewellery, saddlery, horse show prep supplies, horse rugs, horse floats, books, farm supplies and massage therapy for horses and humans alike.
“Our Timed Event program will commence on Friday, April 10 at 5pm with the Working Cow Horse event first up,” Moss-Smith said.
“Local team ropers and husband and wife team, Greg and Phillipa Leys will team up in the hope of securing victory over Wendy and Troy Caban from Moree and Lance Hutton and Adam Maher from Kootingal. “Blake Hallam from Tamworth will also team up with Greg Leys and Troy Caban. Blake and team mate Jeff Miller finished third last year.
“Local sisters, Katina and Calla Matthews (from Legends of Morn Stud) will also be looking to set the fastest time on their registered quarter horses in the breakaway roping and the barrel racing events ahead of one of Australia’s top barrel racing competitors from Wagga, Vicki Schiller, and last year’s winner Shelley Miller (Warwick).”
Q15 has a huge variety of equine disciplines on display with competitors and horses competing at a top level, Moss-Smith said.
“It is an event that can be enjoyed by the whole family,” she added.
“The AQHA works hard to present consistently great shows and we are confident spectators will not be disappointed by the quality of horses and competitors at this year’s event.”
