Yes, that is what our government is charging the Peel Valley water users.
Why is it that each and every valley in NSW does not pay the same price for their water? After all, the dams were paid for by the taxpayers.
There was no discrimination as to the price that would be paid by each and every person in all catchment areas.
Yes, the Commonwealth paid a share also.
There was no level of discriminative payment or share set at the time when the dams were built.
However, the water charges set for each valley are now disproportionate to the usage of each valley.
After all, each valley and catchment uses water for irrigation.
It is difficult, no impossible, to find a legitimate formula to compensate for the current scale of charges set by this state.
Why is there such a wide variation in prices between users in the many areas?
There is no possible way that the current price range between the various dams and valleys can be justified.
After all, all residents in rural NSW have access to the water of their valleys.
Each user should be paying the same amount for their water, regardless of where they are located.
It was stated that water prices would be stable when the Snowy Mountains scheme was designed and the finance was set by the Commonwealth.
