A cheque for $11,409.22, proceeds of the big night, was handed over to Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service with the prospect of making it an annual event.
Event organiser Debbie Watts and her husband Stuart had enjoyed a similar experience in Sydney and felt Tamworth families would have just as much fun as they did in the big smoke.
“It was fantastic. We were absolutely overwhelmed with more numbers than we expected, up to about 3000, we think,” Mrs Watts said.
“We pre-sold tickets to get a bit of an idea of numbers for catering purposes. You always have that bit extra just in case and that extra catering certainly came into play.
“It was a wonderful situation where students, teachers, parents – everyone – just pitched in and helped out for the enjoyment of others.
“I’ll certainly be recommending we make it an annual event and once again, have the fabulous rescue helicopter service as our charity recipient.”
