Over the years she helped many young people of stage and electronic media. She used to say “everyone should speak correctly”.
She really disliked people who dropped their Gs and Hs.
That didn’t make her a snob, just someone who believed that we should all speak the Queen’s English as it was originally designed.
On one occasion she lined up Marcus Clarke for me to interview at her place, obviously somewhat of a challenge.
The same Margaret turned me down when I asked her to be my guest on a couple of occasions on the radio, with a typical reply of “What do you want me on for?”
Such was the modesty of the lady.
So I am sure there are many people you hear on radio and television who had their rough edges smoothed off by one Margaret Heiliger.
