Usually the Scully Park pool remains open for a couple of weeks after the town pool closes. But this year both pools close before Easter.
This seems to be a money-saving idea.
Could I remind council that these pools are public facilities, just like the library, art gallery, parks and gardens, which do not necessarily generate money.
If council needs some ideas about saving public money, I could suggest the following: not selling off public parks etc to developers for a pittance; cutting down on council staff trips to China and the like at ratepayers’ expense; and recouping money to developments like that at the league club and getting the club to reimburse it for the pollution at the Scully Park pool.
I am sure ratepayers can think of many more savings for them to consider.
