VETERAN golfers from near and far farewelled the Tamworth fairways yesterday as the annual Plan Plus Senior Weeks of Golf came to an end.
The tournament drew over 150 golfers and saw some very competitive play over the four days, which were spread between the Tamworth and Longyard courses.
After three individual stablefords, the golfers switched mode yesterday to a four-ball medley with half playing in the morning and the other half in the afternoon.
The combination of Tamworth’s David Tufrey and Denman’s Jeffery McKeon conquered the Tamworth course topping the scoreboard with 45pts.
Dubbo’s Brian and Val Turrell followed with 41 with Wyong’s Bill and Sue Hutton taking third on a count back with 40.
Hervey Bay’s Bob Visentin continued his good week teaming up with wife Judy to win the afternoon round.
Visentin was third in both the NSW Vets Shield (36-holes) and Country Music Challenge (54-holes).
It was a tight battle at the top yesterday with Bob and Judy, and the Longyard’s Ken and Deb Muller both carding 44pts.
On count back though the Visentin’s took the spoils.
Bundaberg’s Byrne Drewiit and Ken Thompson were third and only a point behind.
Arthur Rutley, one of the tournament organisers, said it had been a great week.
“We’ve averaged 150 players per day,” he said.
“And everyone was appreciative of the weather.”
Both courses too were in brilliant condition.
