I draw particular attention to a card whose intention is only to smear the reputation of the local independent candidate.
And who is it from? Authorised only by a faceless person with no affiliations? Really?
And then a letter from the premier, Mike Baird, claiming that the local independent is being “openly backed by local Labor volunteers” and “supported by groups who fundamentally oppose our efforts to rebuild NSW and want to reinstall a Labor government”.
This suggests that the other (eg,. Greens and Labor) local candidates are not seen as a threat.
Among the many people I know who are “leaning away” from support for The Nationals locally, the strongest driver of their views is
disappointment with the sort of “snouts-in-the-trough” politics that has seen numerous politicians from both the major parties removed from office (sometimes with ICAC assistance) over the last two terms of government.
I’m sure I speak for many others in saying we are not Labor supporters.
Many of us want a state where, amongst other things, big business interests like coal and CSG, aren’t allowed to ride rough-shod over rural communities.
We want our representatives to listen and act with long-term vision for the sort of Australia that will serve our kids and grandkids well. The quality of our air, water, soil and food are a big part of that.
This sort of muck raking is making the choice clearer as the ballot box approaches.
