The challenge took into account the three individual stablefords, the final of which was yesterday’s round at the Longyard.
Gorringe won on count back from Cox after both finished on 113pts.
On Tuesday Cox had claimed the 36-hole NSW Vets Shield from Gorringe.
Hervey Bay’s Bob Visentin was third with 111.
The ladies challenge honours went to Tamworth’s Noelene Chaffey with 97pts.
The Longyard’s Joan McGhie was officially second to add to her Vets Shield success.
She actually finished with more points (102) than Chaffey but tournament rules deem that you can’t win both.
Kew’s Yvonne Burnett was, as she was in the shield, third with 95pts.
Yesterday’s round saw some close results with countbacks required in several divisions to determine positions.
The battle for the overall men’s honours was especially tight with four players finishing with 40pts.
Jamberoo’s Lance Fredericks prevailed from Tallwood’s Warren Duckett, Wyong’s Wayne Baker and Redmonds Bay John Teh.
Fredricks and Teh both played in Division 3 and filled the top two spots.
Duckett and Baker did likewise in Division 1.
Tamworth’s Gary Smith won Division 2, also on a count back ahead of Wyong’s Bill Hutton.
Maitland’s Toy Martin was a clear winner in the women’s finishing with 35pts.
Wyong trio Kim McRae, Evelyn Potts and Vicki Atkins were the next best with 33 and took out first, second and third respectively in Division 1.
Martin won Division 2 ahead of Tamworth’s Mary Gurd and Windaroo’s Mavis Stevens who both shot 32.
The attention turns back to Tamworth today for the fourball medley.
