The five-year-old mare is also part of a real family affair for her trainers Barbara Joseph and son Paul Jones.
“I originally bought her as a brood mare,” Joseph said yesterday.
“But then I put my nine brothers and sisters in her and then my four kids as well.
“She’s a real family affair.”
Because We All Can has won four of her 14 starts and is one of five Canberra horses in the Wild Card field.
Royal Jackpot (Matthew Dale), Rose’s Song (Steve O’Brien), Hello Schumann (Luke Pepper) and Nights On Fire (Norm Gardner) are also in the field, but all four drew better than Joseph’s mare.
“She didn’t draw well did she,” Joseph said of a barrier 16. “But she could come out of 11. That might not be a bad thing for her. She doesn’t have to lead but can be fast out of the gates. “She’s a strong little thing.
“We gave her a jump out here the other day and she’ll be up for this. Her win at Canberra a couple of starts back was pretty good too. They ran 1:22, very quick. It was a nice run.”
Joseph has fond memories of the HNWRA. Merimbula Bay came up to Tamworth in 1989 to win the very first Prime 100,000 and then annexe the Doncaster at 33-1 the next start.
She still laughs about the infamous “throwing the waitress into the pool” celebration after the Tamworth win with a syndicate horse nicknamed Rambo.
While Because We All Can has a large family syndicate Joseph’s sons, Paul and Matthew Jones, also have a lot to do with the mare.
Paul trains in partnership with his mother while Matthew is the stable foreman for a major stable at Canberra.
