Bradley James O’Connor is facing three charges after a co-ordinated strike by police earlier this month saw several arrested and the dismantling of the Rebels OMCG headquarters in Tamworth.
O’Connor appeared in Tamworth Local Court via video link from Cessnock’s Maximum Security Centre yesterday afternoon where he was being held on three charges, including supplying ice and amphetamine, as well as knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime.
Magistrate Mal Macpherson granted the 34-year-old bail on the condition two people agree to forfeit $15,000 each to ensure O’Connor complies with his conditions.
The 34-year-old will have to report to Nundle police everyday and has been prohibited from contacting his co-accused who were arrested as part of Strike Force Mewburn, a targeted operation which has brought down the Tamworth chapter of the Rebels.
The Tamworth chapter president Brent Murray, who is facing several charges including manufacturing a drug, supplying drugs and knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, remains behind bars.
Yesterday, Murray, who is being held in Sydney’s Silverwater prison, admitted to one count of using a carriage service to threaten serious harm.
“That is a plea of guilty,” his solicitor told the court.
“There is no application for bail.”
The co-accused all appeared yesterday supported by family members and the court heard they were part of a large gang, with Magistrate Macpherson ordering prosecutors to compile the briefs of evidence against all the accused before the cases head back to court in May.
Co-accused Mark Jeffrey Hicks appeared via video link from Cessnock but did not enter any pleas and made no application for bail.
His partner, and the woman he is alleged to have recruited to assist in criminal activity, also fronted court after she was granted bail earlier this month.
Shannara Elyce Kelly is facing two charges of supplying drugs and one count of hindering the discovery
of evidence when police came knocking.
Vincent Maxwell Duffy will remain on bail after his solicitor told the court the exact quantity of cannabis allegedly found in his possession was more than an indictable quantity and needs to be examined.
Gregory McBride appeared briefly by video link from a Sydney prison but will return to court this week to make a bail application.
The police operation is continuing as Strike Force Mewburn detectives lay further charges after arrests in Nundle, Uralla and Kootingal during the past week.
