The local trio will compete from 2.30pm tomorrow and Friday in the Schmidt Area, PVTPA publicity officer Lindsay Doyle said.
“Ron and Wayne are highly experienced at competing at the Royal Easter Show,” Doyle said.
“This will be Les’s first time. He is a highly experienced and accomplished horseman and his inclusion will be an asset to the team.”
The team was selected from the PVTPAI Club Championships held in December last year. A second team of Allan Greenham, Kirsty Hewit and Amy Greenham were also to represent the club at the Show, but are bitterly disappointed in having to scratch from the event due to an injury to Allan’s horse. Horse sports can be a fickle thing, trying to keep the horse and rider fit for the big events.
Grant said the “Royal Easter Show is the pinnacle of the team penning and arena sorting year”.
“It draws the best two teams from each club throughout Australia for a shootout in the Schimdt Arena,” Grant said.
Wayne Douglas said the Schmidt Arena had a cauldron like atmosphere.
“The arena has high concrete walls and combined with the noise from the crowd makes it hard to hear your team-mates’ calls,” Douglas said.
o Peel Valley Team Penning’s next club day is April 19 at the Koobah Horse Performance Centre located on Spains Lane at Kingswood. Further details on the club’s website (www.peelvalleyteampenning.com).
