Years ago, it used to be that if you happened across an old church you had a major point of difference on the property market. Today, real estate sites seem to have a plethora of converted churches and old halls for almost every budget and belief.
While new builds can often follow the cookie-cutter approach of one design for many, it’s when you have a bespoke design that your true personality can shine. And, a quick scan of domain.com.au reveals some other wonderfully individual homes for sale.
From Lake Eppalock in Central Victoria you can have a little piece of beach-style living with a designated sand area beside the infinity-edge pool. No, it’s more than a giant sandpit, says the agent, as its wide expanse allows the resident to indulge in a beachy lifestyle. The quirky addition is part of a four-bedroom architecturally designed home that sits on 49 acres of secluded land with an established four-acre walnut orchard. If ‘beachside’ relaxation is not for you, then take in the views of Mt Ida from the massive deck. Tim Bennetts, from Abercromby’s, Armadale, says the asking price “for the perfect escape is about $1.5 million”. And if are worried about "topping up" the beach pool, the property has tanks with 500,000 litre capacity and bore water. Bennetts says the property’s asking price is about $1.5 million.
For $5 million in Esperance, WA, you can get your very own life-sized Stonehenge replica, complete with a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home. The British landmark replica has been the property of Kim and Jillian Beale since 2010. And, like the original, the structure is aligned to the sunrise of the summer solstice. Agent Rob Johnstone from Elders Esperance says the vendors are exploring the potential of subdividing the property, leaving the Stonehenge and home as one, with about 400 hectares of prime farming land as the other.
For those wanting something more grand with space to move look no further than Perricoota Station in Moama, southern New South Wales. While the agents are seeking expressions of interest, on offer is a restored historic 1860s home, various outbuildings, 3km of Murray River frontage - with its own pontoon! - and hundreds of citrus trees on more than 330 acres. The property is currently run as a reception centre, so business is ready to go, say the agents.
However, if buying is not on your agenda at present, yet you have a burning desire to live out your passion for Game of Thrones or go a little medieval, then consider this fortress in Queensland. Built in 2009, Crossman Castle, named after the owners, is on the rental market for $550 per week. While the exterior comes with a drawbridge - perfect for avoiding unwanted visitors - inside is a modern abode with four bedrooms and an ensuite.
With so much variety out there, the property market is proof one person’s castle is another's inland beach paradise.
