Day and Curtis Luck played the match of the day on Saturday.

Luck overcame a 5-down deficit on the 10th tee to be just 1-down on the 13th green.

He strung together four consecutive birdies and was standing over a 3-foot chance for a fifth.

In a crucial moment, Day dropped a 10-foot par-saving put, while Luck missed a crucial chance to square the match.

The moment wasn't lost on Day, as a crucial one in knocking out his fellow Cottesloe club member.

"That putt was really important," he said. "If I was to make six there we'd be on to the next. It was a massive momentum shift in may favour and I was able to regroup."

Day made it to the semi-final round after he beat the fifth ranked Simon Liddel 6&5 and fourth ranked Michael Dennis 6&4 on Friday.

But he only made it into the matchplay round of 16 in 12th spot after carding a 7-over par on in the second round of strokeplay on Thursday.

However, it's no surprise that he has made the final having led the field after day 1 with a 2-under par.

In the women's draw, Hayley Bettencourt and Hannah Green set up a rematch of last year's final with solid rounds in tough windy conditions.

Bettencourt defeated Lake Karrinyup's Rachita Vasandani 4&3, while Green eliminated fellow Mount Lawley member Hira Naveed with a 5&4 result.

Green was particularly impressive with her putter and will need to be in the Final to get over Bettencourt.

"I holed a lot of putts that Hira didn't make, and that really made the score what it was," Green said.

"I hadn't holed those putts previously this week coming into today's round, so it was really nice to hole them."
