THE AUSTRALIAN Quarter Horse Association is ecstatic at having the opportunity to run the prestigious American Quarter Horse Association International Youth World Cup in Tamworth in the middle of the year – another massive coup for the AQHA and Tamworth.
Australian Quarter Horse Association media and events co-ordinator, Nicky Moss-Smith, said the prestigious International Youth World Cup will be held in Tamworth from June 23 until July 3.
“The event will be held in Tamworth’s very own world class Australian Equine Livestock and Events Centre,” Nicky Moss-Smith said.
“About 13 countries will be sending Youth Teams, who will converge on Tamworth to compete for the champion title for their country.
“Each team will have seven members, a team manager and a coach. Many mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and friends will also make the trek to Australia to support their loved ones.
“This is a massive windfall for not only the AQHA but for the Tamworth Community.
“The AQHA International Youth World Cup is an educational, leadership based event for AQHYA members from around the world! It is held every two years. The culmination of this event is a showcasing of skills learned in an atmosphere of friendly competition.
“The Youth World Cup gives our youth a unique opportunity to learn in a “hands on” setting with other international young horse enthusiasts. The Youth World Cup promotes and fosters friendship, horsemanship and sportsmanship among the quarter horse youth of the world.
“Australia will provide horses for competitors from all visiting countries. This means these amazing young people will be riding horses they have never ridden before.
“They will attend clinics which will run for five days, where they will learn from some of the finest trainers in the world. They will then compete under show conditions for two consecutive days. Riders will compete in: Showmanship at Halter, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Hunt Seat Equitation, Western Riding, Trail, Reining, and Cutting.
“A combined team score over the two show days will determine the overall placings.”
Nicky Moss-Smith said the Australian Quarter Horse Association was very proud of the quality of youth coming through the ranks.
“We have no doubt that the Australian 2016 Youth Team members will represent our country with pride.
