The lights add more sparkle to a game which sees both sides as joint competition leaders entering the fourth round of matches.
Funnily enough last night’s day/night match between CHS 1s and Combined Country and City Schools would have delivered a third co-leader as both CHS 1s and CCSC were on six points heading into the game. CCSC made 8-177 with Charles Litchfield top scoring for CCSC with 51.
He and fellow opener Jonathan Fowles (26) put on 67 for the opening wicket.
Conner Wilkinson (24) and Daniel Dnato (22) also followed up with good knocks but th side lost their way losing 5-25 in the final overs.
Westfields Sports High School’s Jarred Lysaught was a late destroyer, claiming 3-32 from his 10 overs while Param Uppal also grabbed 2-37 from his 10 overs of offspin.
Across the river Combined Associated Schools batted first and made 206 Adam Wigglesworth (41) and captain Liam Windel (41) top scored while wicketkeeper Harry Purcell also finished unbeaten on 30.
GPS skipper Oliver Holder finished with 2-25 from his 10 overs, right arm paceman James Loneragan was on the spot with his 10 overs claiming 1-26 and Manus Chauhan took 1-23 from his 10 overs of spin. Vice captain Jordan Gauci led the chase with a solid 55 from 130 balls but CAS bowlers never let their opposing batsmen find any great partnerships.
Nic Taylor (25), Will Lawrence (16) and James Loneragan (22) were the best of Gauci’s teammates.
Left arm spinners Nic Cramp (2-22 off 10) and Anuj Aloysius (0-32 off 10) created much of the problem with brilliant slow spells.
Will Graham (2-31), George Furrer (2-32 off 10) and Cooper Murphy (1-29) also bowled tight lines,
Two runouts also made it a good day for CAS.
At Dick Edwards Oval Combined Catholic Colleges handed CHS 2s a seven wicket defeat, rolling them for 120 and then making the most of some poor fielding to finish 3-1221.
Ulladulla’s Matt Gilkes (24), Temora’s Jack Harper (29) and Hornsby’s Eknoor Singh (20) top scored for a CHS 2 side that found Arjun Nair’s unique spin a difficult proposition.
Nair claimed 3-11 off his 10 overs with four maidens.
Maitland’s Jono Maloney also bowled four maidens in his 8.5 spell to claim 2-11 while Leeton’s Mitchell Hardie also grabbed two wickets in his 10 overs stint that included two maidens and went for just 27 runs.
Dylan Kopivec (2-17) and Joseph Hart (1-3) completed a great bowling lineup before Nair also starred with the bat, making 52.
“He was the standout today,” said coach Dean Merola.
“And the boys were at their best today.
“Everyone contributed too.
“We’re back on track. It was a big improvement from the other day (40 run loss to CCSC).”
He thought the bowling was on top and then the batsmen batted patiently.
“They didn’t throw their wickets away.
“Arjun did score 52 but Hazard scored 20 off 70 balls. Callum Waldock also finished unbeaten on 17 with Josh Doyle (8no).
Maitland’s Pat Magann (1-8) bowled without luck in his eight over effort while Luke Courtney (1-29 off 10) and Narrabri’s Luke Meppem (1-17) were the other wicket takers.
