Australia Post executives David Smith, David Ife, Catherine Carroll and Tamworth manager Tracey Lange were outside Australia Post in Fitzroy St, Tamworth, handing out forms seeking feedback on how the service is evolving to meet the changing needs of the community.
“The feedback this morning has all been positive, especially from concession card holders,” Mr Smith, the Australia Post delivery area manager, said yesterday.
“Concession card holders have a fixed 60c stamp, and all Australians will be offered a 65c Christmas stamp, and we will continue to provide five-day-a-week delivery.”
Earlier this week, Australia Post announced sweeping changes mooted for September, which may see the price of a 70c stamp rise to $1 – a proposal that is now before the ACCC – and the introduction of two new delivery speeds: priority and regular.
Mr Smith said the feedback on the two speeds had been minimal, as most customers they’d spoken to were from the older age group.
“Most people haven’t really had an issue with the two speeds as they don’t post a great deal and most of it is non-urgent,” he said.
“Eighty-five per cent of our market for letters is coming from businesses and they don’t apply a stamp.
“Their mail is usually franked or in pre-paid envelopes.”
