The Carinya duo played an integral role in the school’s victory in the Bill Turner Trophy, as well as becoming regional champions, a feat which even surprised the two.
“I still don’t know how that happened,” Cave said.
The Year Nine striker will have another few chances at doing it again, as will Thornton who is one year older, juggling the School Certificate with a packed sport schedule.
Both have been invited to trial for the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) squad in the U15s and opens side respectively in May.
Although before then they will both represent NSW Christian Schools Sports Organisation (CSSA) NSW at the National Christian Schools Games at the Gold Coast starting on May 17.
The Games are five days of non-stop sporting action, with a variety of sports played at a different city every year.
“It has an opening and closing ceremony with the opening at Seaworld,” Thornton said.
“It is going to be awesome.”
Thornton is keen to see what she can do, having never made the CIS soccer side before, although she has for athletics.
“To play the best of the best from each state will be a great challenge,” Thornton said.
Following the Games the girls will switch cities and states to play in Sydney the following weekend at the CIS trial day.
The CSSA trial also acted as a CIS trial, with the girls split into age groups and invited to Sydney for a day of training sessions and games in order to select the CIS side for the upcoming season.
“It would be awesome to be selected,” Cave said.
“I would love to see how I go against all the best.”
