The Shark pack is part of a New England and North West squad of swimmers who have qualified at various heats around the State recently.
Clubs around the state have been holding heats for the event over the summer and now the time has come to put the best of the best head to head over a short course in the four strokes.
Mikaela Short may be small in stature but she is the great white of the City Sharks, in that she devours competitions and carnivals and spits out medals when she is done.
The 11-year-old Short has qualified and should be up there at the finish in all four strokes plus the relays.
Coach Nicolas Monet said Short was the type of athlete who is very easy to train because she is also the type of athlete who loves training and has a drive to succeed.
“I am very excited for the whole squad to be going,” Monet said.
“It is a great opportunity for them to swim with and against the best and also to swim at the Olympic centre.”
The Sprints do not have heats and finals but only races, with each swimmer only getting one shot at nailing a lap and the results coming from the recorded times.
“It is a different way of doing things,” Monet said.
“You have to be ready to go.”
