Today is the first day of spring and Tamworth is farewelling the winter with a week of sunshine and blue skies ahead.
Cheryl Miller of Erin Park Stud said with two foals born in three weeks, they were looking forward to about 30 more on their thoroughbred stud on the outskirts of Tamworth.
The young foals remain nameless until their first birthday when they will be blessed
“It’s a beautiful time of year,” Mrs Miller said.
“You know spring is in the air when all the babies are born.”
Winter hasn’t quite left us behind yet though, with early morning frosts forecast for the weekend so keep the extra blankets on the bed.
Temperatures for the first few days of the new season will hover around 20 degrees Celsius before climbing to 25 degrees for Tamworth and Gunnedah early next week.
The Bureau of Meterology records show that spring in 2011 was warmer and drier than average, on par with temperatures for the other seasons.
