The New England Highway has reopened in both directions in Yarrowford, just north of Glen Innes, after an earlier car and bus accident.
The diversion along the Gwydir Highway via Dundee has been lifted.
Heavy traffic in the area has eased and there are now no delays for motorists.
12.30PM UPDATE: One person has been airlifted while Ambulance paramedics have transported another three patients by road to hospital following this morning's accident.
A 71-year-old male who was trapped in the car has suffered multiple fractures and has been airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Tamworth Hospital in a serious condition.
A 70-year-old woman has been taken by Ambulance to Tamworth Hospital with leg injuries in a stable condition.
Two other children who were on the school bus have been taken to Glen Innes Hospital in a stable condition while another patient was assessed at the scene for minor injuries.
Crash investigators remain at the site with the road not expected to reopen until later this afternoon.
Diversions around the scene remain in place and southbound motorists should take Bald Nob Road to Dundee, then onto Gwydir Highway to return to the New England Highway at Glen Innes.
Northbound motorists should take Golf Links Rd, then Gwydir Highway from Glen Innes, onto Bald Nob Road from Dundee, to return to the New England Highway.
The RMS has confirmed the diversions are suitable for all motorists.
UPDATE 11am:
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter tasked with a doctor has arrived at the scene of the crash.
A 70-year-old woman, who was trapped in the car, is being assessed for a serious leg injury while a male in the car is also being treated by paramedics.
An Ambulance NSW spokesperson said paramedics had assessed five patients in total, including three on the school bus and their injuries were believed to be minor.
Crash investigators from Tamworth have also been alerted and will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
EARLIER: The New England Highway is closed after a serious accident between a school bus and a car north of Glen Innes today.
The crash happened just before 8.30am on Wednesday about 13km north of town, near the Yarrowford Rail Rd, injuring at least three people.
Several Ambulance paramedics are treating the injured, but it is believed the injuries are considered to be minor.
A VRA crew was called to the scene after reports of people trapped in the car and firefighters are on scene to monitor any fuel spills.
It is believed the school bus was carrying several children on route to local schools when the accident occurred, but another school bus is believed to have transported many of the students to school.
Police are currently re-directing traffic with the road expected to be closed for some time.
The RMS have confirmed light vehicles can use Gwydir Highway, then Martin St, onto Strathbogie Rd to Wellingrove, then Wellington Vale Rd to Wellington Vale before returning to the New England Highway.
There are no diversions in place for heavy vehicles which are being parked at the site.
