Tamworth received 16.2mm on Sunday afternoon and evening while Moree welcomed 13.6mm including nearly 9mm between 11.41am and 11.57am.
The storm caused flash-flooding in some parts of South Tamworth and the State Emergency Service was called to flooding in garages in South and East Tamworth and trees down on Werris Creek Rd.
The 8pm Qantaslink flight was also delayed until 10pm due to storms in Tamworth and Sydney.
The rest of the week isn’t expected to see any rain for the North West Slopes and Plains with today and tomorrow forecast to be hot and sunny while on Thursday the temperature is expected to reach 35 today and 36 degrees tomorrow in Tamworth and up to 38 degrees for Moree tomorrow.
On the Northern Tablelands, Tenterfield welcomed 10mm on Saturday afternoon while Armidale only received 1mm on Sunday night.
It is predicted to be dry for the region this week with today forecast to be partly cloudy on the tablelands. Tomorrow there is a slight chance of a shower in the morning and afternoon, and Thursday is forecast to be sunny.
During February, the Bureau of Meteorology reported Tamworth airport recorded 22.6 mm, less than half the historical average of
68.4 mm and the driest February since 2001 (21.0 mm). Bureau climatologist Acacia Pepler said most of the rain was associated with a storm on February 26, with 18.8 mm recorded in the 24 hours to 9am on February 27.
“Tamworth’s summer rainfall for 2014-15 is 308.8 mm, above the average of 222.9mm and the wettest summer since 435mm in 2011-12,” she said.
“This just makes it into the wettest 20 per cent of summers, but is drier than several recent years including 2009-10 (354.4 mm), 2007-8 (347.2 mm), and 2003-4 (374.6mm).”
During February Barraba had 60mm, Narrabri has 25mm and Wee Waa 18mm.
Walgett received no rainfall, Moree had 4mm which is the driest February since 1983. Armidale had 26mm compared to an average 87mm.
