The Spirit of Catholic Education Awards celebrates the achievements of all those who contribute to Catholic education.
St Edward’s Tamworth volunteer Bebe Maher was recognised with a 2014 award for the contribution he has made to the school since 2006.
“I was honoured to be recognised but it is common knowledge that nothing special ever happens if it doesn’t have a group of committed people working towards it,” Mr Maher said.
“Together, John Croak, Cath Chatfield, Jenny Maloney, my wife Sue and I did do a lot for the school, but it was good fun and very rewarding.”
He said his reward was seeing smiles on faces at the end of the day, but receiving the 2014 volunteer award from the Diocese of Armidale meant a lot to him.
“There are a lot of people who deserve this honour and I wish all this years’ nominations the very best.”
The mass and award ceremony are part of the Catholic Schools Week 2015, March 8 to 14, celebrations for Diocese of Armidale’s 19 primary schools, two central schools and three secondary schools.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Educating for Today and Tomorrow”, and the week is being celebrated across NSW and the ACT.
