The two cities are among 10 centres around regional NSW showcasing the new fast-paced, non-contact form of sevens.
Combining some of the traditional elements of rugby with aspects of existing non-contact ball sports such as touch football, Viva 7s was developed to open up the game to a new audience.
Anyone from 7 to 77 can play – male or female, and any ability.
That was evident yesterday with juniors, as well as local colts and grade players trying it out, although in Tamworth the response wasn’t as strong as organisers would have hoped, with only enough for two teams.
The roll-out is a bit of a taster.
The current programs will only run for five weeks but, if successful, will be expanded and run over the summer.
