After a one-run loss to Armidale (209 to 9-208) in the Northern Conference Over 60’s match, they tackle Quirindi in a 50-over match at Quirindi Sportsground tomorrow from 9.30am.
Tamworth Vets secretary Dave Head said the Quirindi match would also be a good warm-up for the State Of Origin series against Queensland in Armidale on March 9-10.
“Tamworth will have pretty good representation in those two Country teams to play in Armidale,” Head said.
“There are two NSW City and two NSW Country teams playing four Queensland sides as well as an Over 70s game between NSW and Queensland. It’s going to be a busy few days in Armidale.”
The Tamworth side also warmed up for the busy period with an inter club trial at No1 Oval last Sunday.
“It was another good run for us,” Head said.
“Des Penford had a game too. He hasn’t played for about 20 years.”
Tamworth and Gunnedah also play in their annual Sport & Recreation Seniors Week match on Wednesday, March 25 at No1 Oval (10am start).
Head has notified all players of the game and hopes they can name a side soon.
“Our next ‘inter club’ game is at No. 1 Oval on Sunday, March 8 with a 3.30 for a 4pm start,” he said.
“A considerable number of our players will be travelling to Armidale the next morning for State of Origin, so we want an earlier finish.”
The Tamworth team to play Quirindi in tomorrow’s 50 over-a-side game is: Terry Murphy, Peter Boyd, Dave Head, Chris Crowell, Tom Kellett, Graeme Whitton, Ronnie Farrell, Col Barton, Bob Haling, Steve Beaton, Noel Cook, Rob Kahler, Mike Cashman (13th).
