Bronya Schoner, 38, initially pleaded not guilty to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm, but during a trial in Warwick District Court last week she admitted to the charges.
Tenterfield’s Dianne Holley was killed and her 20-year-old daughter was seriously injured during a crash south of Stanthorpe on February 1, last year.
Schoner was driving on the wrong side of the road when she crashed into the Tenterfield family’s Toyota Echo at the intersection of Whiskey Gully Rd and New England Highway.
The 38-year-old was already disqualified from driving when she got behind the wheel en route from Victoria to the Gold Coast before the tragic crash.
Since her arrest, Schoner has spent time behind bars over the crash, after failing in the state’s Supreme Court in April last year to get bail whenthe judge found she was a risk to the community as she was tempted to drive.
During a sentencing hearing in Warwick District Court on Thursday afternoon, Schoner was jailed for five years, which will be suspended in February, 2016.
