Jesse Rockliffe uploaded the photo to his Facebook page after seeing a near head-on crash on the road to Burnie and recorded it on his dash cam.

The video showed a car that overtook another vehicle, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and forced a truck to swerve out of the way.

The video has gone viral, gaining shares from users across cyberspace — including Tasmania Police.

"Police are astounded at the driving behaviour witnessed in this video posted to Facebook yesterday by Jesse Rockliffe," Tasmania Police posted.

"Sergeant Nick Clark, of Northern Road and Public Order Services, would really like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident first-hand and who many have obtained the registration details of the vehicles involved."

Road Safety Advisory Council chairman Jim Cox said this behaviour had occurred too many times on Tasmanian roads.

"You'd be lucky to travel to Hobart and not see it at least once," Mr Cox said.

"I think that it's a combination of impatience and that people don't think.

"It's not only themselves they've just endangered, they've endangered the truck drivers, the cars that are with them."
