Since 2011, Cathy Ham and daughters Sally Stockwell and Lauren Ham have fundraised each year for Ovarian Cancer Australia.

But this year’s event promises to be their biggest yet, after entering into a new partnership with the Quirindi Jockey Club.

On February 20, the trio and a small band of supporters will host a “mega” Fashions on the Field competition at the Quirindi Cup.

Racegoers can also purchase corporate and private packages, with all proceeds going to support Ovarian Cancer Australia’s research and awareness campaigns.

Mrs Ham said the family’s determination to make a difference came after the loss of her mother, community stalwart Colleen Green, to the disease in 2010.

“That was the reason behind our annual events,” she said.

“My main message is for women to just be a little bit more aware and assertive.

“We just want to inform and empower local woman. It’s not just older women, but younger women that it affects, too.”

Quirindi Jockey Club secretary Ted Wilkinson said the club was proud to be able to support the Ham family in its endeavour.

“We’re a local community organisation, so we’re happy to support local charities in any way we can,” he said.

“This is a particularly good idea, because it tries to involve a lot more ladies and a different audience to what we normally attract.”
