Incumbent Kevin Anderson has wasted no time hitting the hustings as he seeks the electorate’s blessing to serve four more years as the member for Tamworth.
Running under the slogan “We’re keeping Kevin”, the Nationals candidate opened his Peel St campaign office last month and has commenced an extensive doorknocking drive.
Tim Wardle, of Tamworth accountancy firm Wardle Osborne, has been appointed as Mr Anderson’s campaign manager.
“I’m taking this election very seriously,” Mr Anderson said.
“I think it will ramp up now as people go back to work and start to switch back on to the daily grind.
“What we’re doing now is an extension of the work that I’ve been doing over the last four years.”
Gunnedah-based Labor candidate Joe Hillard, who has also been politicking hard, said the cost of opening a campaign office was prohibitive.
“To my knowledge, we really only have campaign offices in towns where we have sitting members,” he said.
NSW will go to the polls on March 28, with the Liberal-Nationals Coalition a $1.02 favourite with bookmaker Sportingbet to retain power.
