The funds will be shared between Farrer, Tamworth High and Peel High for upgrade projects, with Farrer receiving the bulk of the funds for new boarding accommodation and the refurbishment of existing facilities.
The school’s $3 million share of the funding will also be used for new industrial technology facilities.
Boarders represent 60 per cent of the total student population at Farrer, while Mr Piccoli said three-quarters of students undertook at least one industrial technology course.
The new facilities are expected to be completed by January 2018.
Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said the funds for Tamworth and Peel High schools would help improve the condition and amenity of the campuses, but works were still in the planning stage, to be undertaken over the next four years.
Mr Piccoli also visited Tamworth Public School, where he met students, teachers and parents and dropped in on excited Kinder kids embarking on their first day of “big school”.
Tamworth Public has more than 120 Kinders starting this year.
