Open Horse is the most prestigious award, and Palmer was out to get his third title, qualifying six horses for the event.
“It is pretty hard to qualify one horse and I didn’t have much luck on the first day,” Palmer said.
“I went home with my tail between my legs but got some better cattle in the second round.”
Palmer ended up taking out first and second in the second round, with Replica and Sonidor performing well under the drafter.
The Open Horse came down to the last round for the season but Palmer and the aptly-named Impressive Destiny were up to the task.
A huge score of 91 entered Palmer into a very exclusive club of competitors who have left Tamworth with three titles on their belt.
“I won four drafts during the year but this was by far the best performance from the horse,” Palmer said.
“It is fairly prestigious and I am very proud to be counted amongst cowboys like that.
“I have trained and drafted probably 80 horses and Impressive Destiny is the best.”
Campdraft director Peter Connor said the event had been extremely successful, with the grounds at AELEC very well presented and the weather close to perfect, allowing them to finish in record time, completing two full rounds on Friday and finishing at lunchtime on Saturday.
“Although there were some tough ones, the cattle were good and I wish to thank the cattle donors for their generosity in donating their cattle at this time of year despite conditions.
“Their generosity is very much appreciated and an essential component to our sport.
“The Open Horse title was hotly contested, with Troy Palmer riding Impressive Destiny and Allan Young riding Acres Liberty Beau coming in on equal points.
“Troy Palmer ended up taking it out as well as the Open Rider title.
“The Novice Horse title was won by Warwick Lawrence on Acres Jewel and the Encouragement title winner Anthony Mortimer and his mare Little Abbey proved to be highly consistent, gaining places in three out of eight event aggregates.”
