More than 600 buskers lined the footpaths of Tamworth’s Boulevard of Dreams during the 10 days of the 2015 festival, all vying for a spot on the stage in the park for the Toyota LandCruiser Country Music Busking Championships and the prizemoney on offer.
The top prize for the country music section was awarded to Tia Gostelow and Jack Gray – Tia and Jack – from Mackay, who received $2500 in prizemoney.
Second place, and $1500, was awarded to 13-year-old Justess Jones from the Hunter Valley.
The non-country section of the championships was taken out by duo and first-time entrants Little Georgia – Justin Carter and Ashleigh Manix, from Sydney and the Gold Coast, who received $1200.
The Sydney duo of Morgan Haselden and Phoebe O’Shea, Mimosa, placed second and won $800.
The people spoke up for Gunnedah locals Rex Baldwin and Val Williams, who were rewarded for performing on Peel St every day of the festival and received the honour of the People’s Choice award and $1000 in prizemoney.
Tamworth’s Boulevard of Dreams has played an important role in the development of some of Australian country music’s greatest talents, including Keith Urban, Kasey Chambers and Troy Cassar-Daley, who all performed on the streets of Tamworth in the early days of their careers.
