TAMWORTH Regional Council will appeal to Roads and Maritime Services, formerly the RTA, to have Bowlers Ln north of the Oxley Highway gazetted as a 25-metre B-double route for 1km.
The issue of the road was brought to council’s attention after two letters were sent to the local traffic management committee seeking access for B-doubles to their businesses on the road.
A report to council said the requests were received from the owner of the Bellata Gold Pasta manufacturing plant located on Bowlers Ln and a heavy haulage firm from out of town thatdelivers to and from the factory.
Owner of Bellata Gold, Doug Cush, took his plight to Tamworth Regional councillors in the community consultation section of Tuesday night’s meeting.
He said a number of his trucks that used the road to access the factory had been fined for doing so and expressed concern that if the trucks were not able to access the factory his business would suffer considerably.
