THREE Brothers (The Great War) has meant three Golden Guitars for singer-songwriter Luke O'Shea at tonight's CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia.
This meant he's doubled his Golden Guitar collection in one night, winning Male Artist of the Year, APRA Song of the Year and Toyota Heritage Song of the Year. It’s the third year in a row that Luke O’Shea has won Heritage Song of the Year.
Kasey Chambers, and bush balladeer Dean Perrett won two gongs each.
Chambers took out the prestigious Album of the Year award with Bittersweet and Single of the Year for the title track, which she recorded with Bernard Fanning, which takes her Golden Guitar total to 22.
Perrett picked up two Golden Guitars for Vocal Collaboration of the Year with the multi-award winning Troy Cassar-Daley for My Country, My Land and Bush Ballad of the Year for Bloodwood and Clover.
One of the hardest working artists in the business, Amber Lawrence, finally won her first Golden Guitar for Female Artist of the Year for her album Superheroes, which is her fourth album.
The unstoppable all-girl group, The McClymonts (Here’s to You and I) took out Country Music Capital News Group or Duo of the Year on top of their previously awarded Sanity Top Selling Australian Album of Year.
Former Toyota Star Maker winner Lyn Bowtell won the Alternative Country Album of the Year with Heart of Sorrow, Mustered Courage grabbed a Golden Guitar for Instrumental of the Year for Candle Creek and the first Bluegrass Recording of the Year award was won by Kristy Cox for One Heartbreak Away.
The Adam Eckersley Band took home the Qantaslink New Talent of the Year award and last year’s Female Artist of the Year Sara Storer won another Golden Guitar, Video Clip of the Year with her song Canoe.
Thousands of country music fans attended the industry's night of nights awards presentation concert and witnessed the stars walk the red carpet prior to the announcement of the winners of the 14 Golden Guitars for 2015.
Fans and industry personnel from across the country, and some from overseas, enjoyed the entertainment by country music royalty at the gala concert in the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC).
The awards is one of the final events of the Tamworth Country Music Festival – the largest music festival in the Southern Hemisphere and the second largest country music festival in the world, second only to Nashville's CMA Music Festival.
“Congratulations to each of the artists recognised at the Australian country music industry’s night of nights, the Toyota Golden Guitars – Country Music Awards of Australia,” Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism and Major Events Troy Grant said.
“The awards recognise those performers whose incredible talent draws thousands of fans to the Toyota Country Music Festival Tamworth each year, an event the NSW Government is proud to support through our tourism and major events agency Destination NSW.”
A television special on the 2015 Toyota Golden Guitars will be broadcast on the Southern Cross Ten Network with a date to be announced shortly.
