He said Tamworth was a “must-do” festival for country music fans.
After the Toyota Country Music Cavalcade, Costa fans can cool down with his full show, which is sure to be close to a sellout.
“It’s just got a great atmosphere,” he said.
“We’ve had it more or less full for the last three years in a row. The airconditioning is perfect, the seats are perfect and, as a performer, looking into the crowd, the way it’s tiered, you feel like you’re connecting with everyone.”
Costa said there wasn’t a bad seat in the venue and it gave the audience a full show experience.
Before his main show, Costa appeared at Writers in the Round, Country in the Vines and Toyota Fanzone.
As well as performing, he said he loved Tamworth because it gave him a chance to catch up with everyone.
“It’s not only the people who want to see you perform, but it’s about catching up with people in the industry,” Costa said.
“We’ve been going so many years now, we probably should have bought a house there. In a way, it does feel like coming back to where it kicked off for a lot of people, because a lot of people started their careers by busking on the street, exactly as it happened with me and my brother. A lot of the fan base has stuck with me and it’s unreal when you think of it – country fans are very loyal.”
He said Tamworth was one of those events that people he’d played to around the country came to.
“Nearly every show we do, it’s amazing the percentage of people who put their hands up to say that they’ve been to the festival,” he said.
“Everywhere we go, we’re still promoting the Tamworth festival.”
Costa has been on the road with the Turn Up the Heat tour with Georgia Fall and Baylou. They will continue until the end of May, then he plans to record a new album, with the view of releasing it late this year.
“I’ve got another album in the pipeline and will be releasing an album for 2015,” he said.
“The tour has been fantastic. The chemistry on stage works really well and the acts complement each other. Georgia Fall are opening the show for me at the festival and we like to have surprise special guests come along.”
Costa said everyone cared about the show, which made the tour work well.
“Everybody has just been putting in a lot of hard work,” he said.
