THE second annual Country Music Week Triples at the City Bowling Club again attracted a good roll-up of both locals and visitors to both nights of the event.

Two matches played over Friday and Saturday night attracted almost full greens on both occasions, with the home knowledge proving too good for the out-of-towners.
City president Greg Roese said it was a reasonable crowd for the first hit-out of the year where City teams won both nights.
On Friday, Steve Booby, Pat Crowe and Leon Shearer proved too good for the field with Dan Daley, Ricky Douglas and Stuart Bayliss runners-up.
Country music visitors from Goodooga with a country music-sounding name – Cochrane, Johnson and Jackson – came third, with their first names still unknown.
The event also attracted a few bowlers from Melbourne and some other rollers from far away.
“They saw it on our website apparently,” Roese said.
“I will have to use it more often now that I know it works.”
Roese reigned supreme the following night, taking out the Saturday comp alongside City mates Norm Dezius and Brian Konz.
Mick Emery’s team almost had it wrapped up before a three-shot end from the eventual winners saw them miss out on even placing.
South Tamworth and Moree combination Tim McDonald, Chris Collins and Bill Stanton took second with City’s Chris Hawley, Geoff Carthew and Bob Priest taking third.
“They were good nights and good fun,” Roese said.
With the City Open Pairs looming in March and the big Easter Carnival, Roese believes the club’s greens could be the best they have had for years.
Greenkeeper and last year’s Central North Bowler of the Year Chris Herden has renovated both, with the top green just opening for this event and the second to open in a few weeks.
Herden had a roll on Friday night to test the roll and was happy with what he saw.
“With the weather the way it is the greens are rolling really well,” Roese said.
“It is good to get some traffic on them to harden them up a bit before the big events.”
