This week the club has had over 170 nominations across the meet, which includes six heats in two divisions.

Greyhound Breeders, Owners and Trainers Association (GBOTA)  NSW chairman Geoff Rose said it is a good problem to have but a shame that some dogs won’t get a run.

“We have increased the meetings from 10 to 12 races but can’t fit any more in,” Rose said.

“There are some good dogs nominated for this Saturday and it should be a top meet .”

The only race that won’t be full is the first 580m race of the year, with only five trainers keen to put their runners over the longer distance, even with an increased $500 for first past the post.

Tomorrow will see the final of the Tara Greyhound Supplies 1-3 wins over the short 347m following four heats last week.

Owner-trainer Colin Burns has to be favourite to get a win with three entries in the final, including fastest qualifier.

Layla Fly High qualified fastest in a time of 20.12 and will jump from box seven, although his other two runners,  Miss Uggboot and Hanify Storm, are the only dogs in the race who have ever broken the 20-second mark over the distance.

They will jump from boxes four and six respectively.

The meet will also feature four maiden series heats, two 1-4 win heats and the Ladbrokes Sprint Series final in a big day of racing.

While the new surface on the track has obviously improved the standard of racing and thus attracted better dogs, GBOTA  is still struggling to get the track TAB-approved.

The problem is not with the betting agency but with Greyhound Racing NSW, which wants to see some regional clubs amalgamate before they will pass the motion.

“I don’t really know why,” Rose said. “I have asked a hundred times.”

This region and the mid north coast are now the only ones in NSW without a TAB track.

“It makes it very difficult for breeders, owners, trainers and punters to keep going,” Rose said.

“A TAB track will bring more money, more people and more dogs.

“I don’t think it would spell the end for Tamworth or Armidale either.

“Even this weekend we have too many dogs for the one track.”
