Angland travelled south to compete in a run of seven rodeos in southern New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia during the holiday period where he won the saddle bronc-bareback bronc double at Yarrawonga in Victoria.
He was first in saddle bronc with a score of 82 and won the bareback with 79.
He was second in the bareback with a score of 82 at the 70th anniversary rodeo at Tumbarumba (NSW), one point behind winner David Worsfold from Wandoan in Queensland.
Worsfold won the bareback in four of the seven rodeos during the holiday period.
Angland recorded seconds in the saddle bronc and bareback at the Deniliquin Rodeo in New South Wales to move up the standings in both his events.
He is almost certain to make the top-15 in both events and qualify for the end of season National Finals Rodeo.
Tooma (NSW) rider Brad Pierce won the saddle bronc at Beechworth and Finley with scores of 77 and 81.
Lavington (NSW) cowgirl Stephanie Gard started the Christmas Run winning the cowgirls’ double, the barrel race and breakaway roping, at Myrtleford in Victoria.
Teneille Little, from Boggabri, made her trip from New South Wales worth it with wins in the barrel race in Victoria at Yarrawonga and Beechworth.
Gundagai rider Adele Edwards was in form in the barrel race with wins at Deniliquin and Tumbarumba during the seven holiday rodeos.
The best timed event performer from all states during the southern rodeos was Trafalgar (Vic) rider Terry Evison who won the rope and tie at three rodeos and combined with Corey Heath from Tabbita (NSW) to win the team roping at Deniliquin.
While he didn’t record a win, Evison was in the placings in his three events at the Carrieton Rodeo in South Australia.
He was second in steer wrestling, third in the rope and tie and second in team roping with Aaron Bookluck from Nilma North (Vic).
Evison and Bookluck have combined to win a national title in the APRA.
Bookluck recorded a victory in team roping at Yarrawonga in combination with New South Wales rider Heath Litchfield.
Lockington (Vic) cowboy Lee Kimber won the individual timed event double at Carrieton in South Australia.
He was first in steer wrestling at Carrieton in a time of 5.45 seconds and won the rope and tie in 4.85 seconds.
Kimber won the steer wrestling at the 70th anniversary rodeo at Tumbarumba in 5.7 seconds.
Other riders to win two or more events on the Christmas Run included Luke Hamilton (Stowport, Tas) and Latteliah DeSpirt (Bacchus Marsh, Vic).
Rodeo action will be in Tasmania and South Australia for the rest of January and then in five states in February and March.
Large nominations are expected in the next three months as riders aim to make the top-15 in the APRA and qualify for the National Finals Rodeo this year.
