Cameron Press coached the Tiger ladies to a win at Moree last year but he’s ruled himself out this season because he’s having a shoulder reconstruction and completing his honours year at uni.
Just who will tackle the task of training the talented group of Tigerettes is anyone’s guess, outgoing Uralla Rugby League Football Club president Carl Press said.
He also coached the first grade side last year but is stepping down in 2015 on both fronts.
Another local stalwart, Stephen Vanry, is this year’s club president as well as captain-coach.
“Scott Swain and I will be assisting Stephen,”Carl Press said.
“Scotty’s undecided about playing but hopes to play for NSW Police so he might pull on a jumper.
‘Stephen will have his work cut out (as president and coach) and will also play (prop-second row).
“We’ve got a few boys coming back too,” Press said.
“Ben Jones is going to have another stint so we’ll have plenty of forwards by the looks of it.”
The Tigers have lost three of their star teenagers though, with Jordan and Sam Press off to South Newcastle and Fred Campbell signed to play with Newcastle Wests.
On top of that, Greg Press is playing in Taree this year.
“We had five or six Press’s playing for us last year but none in 2015,” Carl Press said.
“I’ve definitely retired and will help out Steve.”
He said the move to Group 4 Second Division had enticed a number of players back to the club.
However its biggest concern is finding a coach for the triumphant ladies’ league tag side.
“We’ve won it two years in a row,” Carl Press said of the dual Group 19 ladies’ league tag titles.
“But Cameron cannot do it this year because of his shoulder reconstruction and honours at uni.
“They are a very talented side but we didn’t have anyone nominate for the coaching position.”
He’s hoping that will be decided in the next few weeks to ensure the club has its two sides in order to make a return to the Group 4 Second Division.
He believes that return is a far better avenue for the club, with six away games at 100km or less instead of some big hauls to Moree.
“We do have a few players coming to play with us because of that and we have a few others who expect to sign.
“We’ll have a pretty good forward pack but the backs will be a bit light on.”
