When contacted by The Leader late yesterday about the 72-hour forced closure, licensee Nick Weir said he had always complied with authorities.
“I don’t really have a comment,” he said.
“I think it is unjust. I will be complying with everything they have stipulated, because we have complied with everything they have.
“Why don’t they start punishing the people doing the assaults?”
The NSW government announced on December 1 the Albert Hotel had been classified as a level two violent venue this month after 12 alcohol-related incidents were recorded in the hotel or its immediate surrounds.
As part of the strict rules, the Albert Hotel is required to stop serving alcohol 30 minutes before doors close, is restricted from serving drinks in glass or breakable containers after midnight, and has to enforce alcohol time-outs or free water and food for 10 minutes every hour after midnight.
The Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing and local licensing police will continue to keep an eye on the hotel, and management will have to maintain a detailed incident register while ever the doors are open.
