It is race of four, with only a point separating Glen Innes, Manilla, Inverell and Armidale heading into tomorrow’s penultimate round.
Glen and Manilla share the lead and will have home advantage, with Manilla hosting Inverell and Glen Innes, Armidale.
“It should ge good,” Glen Innes skipper Shawn Mepham said.
They are coming off a 245- run win over Bingara last round, which Mepham set up with a smashing 206.
It was his first-ever double ton.
Tomorrow’s side should be stronger again.
“Jake Every comes in. He’ll open up the batting,” Mepham said.
“He’s been very consistent throughout the season here.”
Nathan Purvis also comes back in.
He’s been around the rep set-up a bit over the past few years, and and will bolster the batting and bowling ranks.
“With our bowling attack, we (also) get Perry Stapleton and Blake Steel,” Mepham said.
“They’re two of the leading cricketers in the competition.”
Glen had to forfeit to Walcha in the first round of the Country Plate after only finding out it was supposed to be playing the Wednesday night that week, and was then well-beaten by Plate quarter-finalists Inverell in the Connolly opening round.
“Since then it’s been good,” Mepham said.
“They’ve all been keen.”
It is a pretty young and green side. Four or five of them are getting their first taste of senior rep cricket.
He’s not really sure what to expect from Armidale but is expecting “a decent game”.
“It’s probably a little bit in our favour at home and on synthetic where everyone’s more comfortable,” he said.
The focus for them will be on being more consistent in the field.
“Against Bingara we had a lot of runs on the board.
“Our bowling and fielding we got a bit complacent after those few early wickets,” he said.
It will be Inverell’s last chance to press its claims for the semis.
It has the bye in the final round.
