At least that’s the way coach Jake Reid is approaching the season ahead.
Reid is returning for his second year in charge and is optimistic about improving on this year.
They finished well out of finals contention.
“I just think the second year we might just click together,” Reid said.
The Mountain Men held a meet the coaches day on Saturday and had a bit of a training run.
They will officially start on January 6 at the Minor League fields.
Reid isn’t planning to change too much.
“I’ll probably go in a bit more relaxed this year,” he said.
He’s also not looking too far ahead.
“I’m not expecting too much too early,” he said.
“We’ll work week by week and hopefully we don’t get any injuries.”
On the paddock he said they can tighten their defence up a bit better.
It’s more off the field though that the inroads need to be made.
“It’s more dedication and commitment to their fellow players,” he said.
“A lot more of that there should be a difference.”
He said there was a “steady showing” on Saturday and, aside from president Scott Saunders hanging up his boots, doesn’t know of anyone who isn’t returning.
He’ll have a better idea after January 6.
“Hopefully on the sixth we start to get a bit of a roll-up,” he said.
“Competitions don’t get handed to you on a platter.”
